Hi folks!
Here’s the supply lists, follow the links for examples as to what you’d want to pick up. You can either purchase them online, or everything that we need for this project can be found at Michaels and JoAnns. If you are going to purchase online, I really like Fire Mountain Gems. They have everything that you will need, and things shipped from their warehouse arrive in Portland very quickly. Keep in mind the links are just suggestions and examples of what you can get- get what you like, and what you feel comfortable working with.
My goal with these projects is to not only teach new jewelry making skills, but also to help you guys build a good basic jewelry making kit, so that you can tackle any project that you find interesting.
Tools
1. Chain/needle nose pliers (Whichever you prefer).
2. Wire cutters
3. Flat nose pliers (optional, but it will help you finish your ends off more easily.)
Note- There are really handy tools called ‘Rosary‘ tools that are both bent/chain nose pliers and wire cutters, all in the same tool. This would be perfectly fine as well. They are an all in one tool that has both Chain nose pliers and wire cutters.
Supplies
1. Jumprings – a medium sized package of 50-100 will work fine.
2. Headpins- Anything at least 1″ long, whatever type of metal you prefer, both ball ends and flat heads look really nice. You will probably want either 16, 18, or 20ga.
3. At least 8″ of larger diameter chain
4. Clasp- Use your best judgement with this, we can make whatever you want to use work, but toggle clasps tend to work the best with larger/fuller/heavier bracelets. (These are lovely as well.)
Beads
1. Beads of any size/color shape that you want, go crazy, have fun with it!
2. Charms- again, whatever you want. Go crazy, have fun, use your imagination.
Swarovski Crystals make a nice accent, and come in a huge range of colors. Tierra Cast makes beautiful charms. There are literally thousands of possibilities.
Note: I’ve had great luck in finding interesting beads and charm by checking both jewelry clearance sales at places like Fred Meyers and Target, as well as Goodwill- look at earrings, necklaces, heck even your jewelry box. If you find something you want to use, we can probably make it work.
If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I can’t wait to see you all!
